: About Photographer Colin Ferguson

orn a short distance from the internationally famous Rennie Macintosh-designed Glasgow School of Art, I grew up in one of Europe’s most vibrant artistic communities. After studying photography at the Northern Alberta Institute of technology, I worked as a commercial photographer in Edmonton before attending the University of Alberta to study Art & Design, literature, and philosophy.

Moving to the Bow Valley in 1990 I taught Photographic Arts at the Alberta College of Art & Design and established Mountain Light Studio in Canmore to serve the Banff, Lake Louise and Kananaskis Country areas a year later. Since 1998 I have run the studio full time.

I have achieved accreditation in Environmental Wedding Photography by a national panel of judges of the Professional Photographers of Canada, Canada’s premier professional photography association, of which I am an active member. I am also a member of the Alberta Professional Photographers Association.

My fine art photography is held in private collections in Canada and the UK and is in the collection of the Province of Alberta.

I love the mountains and I am passionate about the special place I live and work. I like to photograph people, which includes a lot of weddings these days. I enjoy meeting people and making photographs that capture the thrill of their Rocky Mountain experience.
